Officials suspect electrical failure led to fire

November 12, 2007 02:41 pm

Firefighters worked diligently Friday night trying to salvage Mountain Manor, formerly St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, on Sparta Dr. from flames. Crossville Fire Chief Mike Turner said firefighters were called to the scene at about 7 p.m. and found the fire had began about 30 minutes earlier. It took the firefighters about an hour and a half to extinguish the flames. The building did not have a fire alarm system. A truck was kept on scene throughout the night. According to Turner, the fire caused $500,000 in damage to the building owned by Dan and Jody Wyatt. Preliminary reports attribute the fire to a massive electrical failure, but noted the investigation was not yet complete.
