The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Violent Crime Response Team had five forensic scientists on the scene of a double homicide that occurred late Friday night at a residence on Hwy. 70 E near Crab Orchard, just east of the old Daddy's Creek Bar.
Authorities received word of a shooting shortly before 10 p.m. and dispatched three ambulances to the scene, along with a host of sheriff's deputies and investigators. One of the victim's was rushed to Cumberland Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The second victim was rushed to the Crab Orchard Elementary football field where he was airlifted by helicopter and flown to The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville where he later died. Both victims are believed to be Cumberland County residents.
One man was taken into custody about 40 minutes after the shooting at the intersection of School Rd. and Hwy. 70 E and has been held for questioning over night. Authorities are looking for a second person of interest and are still trying to piece together events that led to the violence.
Three TBI agents converged on the scene and shortly before 5 a.m. were joined by the TBI mobile crime unit. No other information is expected to be available until possibly Monday morning.
