Public hearing set for closing Orange Circle

By Jim Young / jimyoungreporter@gmail.com

After several months of lengthy and multiple meetings in a single month, the Crossville City Council has a fairly light agenda for this evening's regular meeting night starting at 5 p.m. with the audit committee, public hearings at 5:30 and the regular meeting beginning at 6 p.m.

Public hearings are scheduled for the proposed closing and abandonment of a portion of Orange Circle between Bob White Dr. and Larch Dr. The abandonment has been requested by the adjacent property owners. When the city abandons a road right-of-way the property reverts in equal parts to the owners on either side except for any necessary utility easements.

Another public hearing is set for 5:45 p.m. on the annexation of .21 acre portion of a lot on Satsuma Dr. Both the current and future owners of the lot are requesting the annexation action. About one-half of the lot is currently inside the city limits already.

The council's regular meeting agenda includes a request from the Bean Pot Campground on Peavine Road for the city to accept up to 2000 gallons of wastewater a week from the administrative buildings only and not from individual campsites. Veolia has recommended accepting the wastewater at a cost of 3 cents per gallon.

Additional proposed annexations will be discussed during the council's meeting. One request is for the annexation of 5 acres on Genesis Road from the Calvin Turner family. Also a request for the annexation of .18 acres on Myrtle Avenue has been received from Steve Robinson.

The council will hear several reports including the usual city manager's and city attorney's reports as well as an update on marketing and public relations projects.

The council will recognize the Martin Elementary School student of the month and present a proclamation of November as American Indian Heritage Month.

Other items of business on the agenda include action on fire department projects financed by Rural Development and an energy grant to upgrade some of the city's buildings.
