Nearly an hour spent removing trucker from wreckage

This truck driver from Nashville was seriously injured Monday around 10 p.m. when his tractor-trailer rig slammed into the rear of a stopped 18-wheeler within sight of the Peavine exit on I-40. It took Cumberland County firefighters almost an hour to extricate the victim from the crushed cab of his truck. He was flown by MedEvac to The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville where he is being treated for bone fractures and internal injuries.
The accident occurred in the east lane when the first truck, loaded and headed to Massachusetts, stopped for traffic that was merging in the construction zone at the Peavine Rd. overpass. For unknown reasons, the second truck failed to slow and slammed into the rear of the first truck. There were no skid marks prior to the crash. The accident is being investigated by Troopers David Jones and Jason Winningham.
