During a joint meeting of the Cumberland County Schools and Education and Budget committees, both committees held annual election of officers.
Ninth District Commissioner Carmin Lynch will now serve as chairman of the budget committee. After serving 12 years as chairman of the budget committee, 3rd District Commissioner Lynn Tollett said he had been honored to serve as chairman for so long, but recommended Lynch to serve citing the amount of time Lynch has spent on budget issues.
"Carmin has the time needed to dedicate and I honestly don't think I will have the time that it takes to devote to being chairman. There's a lot involved with it. I have some things coming up that I'm going to need to take care of in the last two years of this term and I feel like Carmin will give us good direction," Tollett said.
Seventh District Commissioner Mike Harvel nominated Lynch to serve as chairman and 5th District Commissioner Sharon York supported it. Lynch said he would accept as long as Tollett served as vice chairman. Both were unanimously approved. County Finance Director Nathan Brock will remain serving as secretary for the budget committee.
Eighth District Commissioner Jeff Brown was elected again as chair of the schools and education committee and 6th District Commissioner Wendell Wilson was elected to serve as vice chair. Second District Commissionr Robert Safdie was elected to serve as secretary.
