Identity theft charged Crossville woman; investigation continues in second incident

A Crossville woman reported the theft of her wallet which contained debit-style cards from which child support and food stamps are issued, and a second local woman, charged in an unrelated incident, remains a suspect in the incident.

Jamie Lynn Wilkey, 28, 14 Oak Crest Lane, is charged with theft of property, identity theft and criminal impersonation. She was arrested Sept. 19 and bond was set at $6,000, in connection with an attempt to cash another woman's check, according to Ptl. Jonathan O'Neal's report.

The day before police were dispatched to First National Bank of Tennessee on N. Main St. after it was reported that someone had attempted to pass a check in the amount of $1,150 from the account of Betty Ruth Hall, whose account had been closed because of the theft of her checks.

Someone driving a white Ford Taurus station wagon approached the bank's drive-thru window and attempted to pass the check, using the driver's license of a Lisa Henry as identification. The check has been made out to that name as well.

Later witnesses were able to pick the woman out of a photo lineup and warrants were issued.

About that same time, Lisa Henry of Underwood St. reported to police someone had stolen her wallet which included her driver's license and debit cards. Wilkey and a male were reported to have been at the residence, visiting Henry, about the time the wallet and contents disappeared.

The victim later learned that several hundreds of dollars worth of charges had been applied to her child support and food stamp cards. Investigation into that incident is continuing.
