Fire of unknown origin swept through the Alan Freitag residence Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured in the blaze that kept firefighters battling flames and 90-plus degree temperatures. The residence is located on Goodstock Rd. which runs off Meridian Rd. and Hwy. 68 in the Meridian community.
Firefighters got the call at 2 p.m. and remained on the scene until 6:30 p.m., pouring thousands of gallons of water on the house. Both house and contents were a total loss. Freitag told authorities he was asleep on the couch when smoke detectors sounded off, awakening him. He escaped the burning house and called 911. Firefighters were called back to the residence around 1 a.m. when a hot spot rekindled. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
