Nonprofit agencies to receive county funds

Last week commissioners serving on the Cumberland County Budget Committee reviewed its list of nonprofit organizations and the funding those agencies will receive from the county for the 2008-'09 fiscal year.
The following list of agencies hold an annual contractual agreement with the county and will receive these funds from the county if the general fund budget is approved by county commissioners:
• Crossville/Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce — $38,000
• Chamber of Commerce Retire Tennessee program — $7,543
• Cumberland County Rescue Squad — $8,670
• Cumberland County Animal Shelter — $30,600. This agency is now operated by the county.
• Fair Park Senior Citizens Center — $28,560
• Cumberland County Youth Center — $11,016
• Cumberland County Young Marines — $1,200
• Hilltoppers, Inc. — $18,000
• Kids, Inc. — $18,000
The following list of nonprofit agencies with statutory authorization:
• Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency — $13,020
• Upper Cumberland Development District — $5,831
• Tennessee Economic and Community Development planner — $12,250
• Cumberland County Veteran's Affairs — $25,000
The following groups receive cooperative funding through the Tourism Task Force:
• Tourism Task Force Convention/Visitor's Bureau — $30,000
• Cumberland County Playhouse Promotion — $10,000
• Cumberland Homesteads Apple Festival — $5,000
Other agencies receiving funding:
• Fairfield Glade Volunteer Fire Department — $25,000
The agencies receiving funding are part of the county's general fund which was approved by the Cumberland County Budget Committee last week. The entire 2008-'09 fiscal year budget must be adopted and approved by the full Cumberland County Commission before going into effect.
