Suspect who was charged with theft and credit card fraud was out on bond

A Cumberland County man was arrested last week and charged with stealing a credit card and then using it at at least one location in the city, according to arrest reports. Since his initial arrest, the suspect has been served with a second theft warrant.

Sean Paul Stephens, 33, 17047 Genesis Rd., was arrested last Saturday on charges of theft more than $500, forgery, fraudulent use of a credit card, criminal impersonation and on an attachment for failure to appear in court. He was also served with a fiat order of protection.

Stephens was ordered held without bond on the failure to appear char ge and bond was set at $3,500 on the other charges. He is to appear in General Sessions Court Monday.

Stephens was in custody in Putnam County last week and was transported to Cumberland County to face the new charges.

He is accused of stealing a credit card belonging to Stone Dr. resident on June 3 and on June 23 using the back card at Hibbet Sports to make a $190.91 purchase. He forged a signature on the register receipt.

On that same date he attempted to use the same stolen credit card to make a $458.61 purchase at Wal-Mart but the transaction was rejected.

The attachment stems from Stephens' failure to appear Aug. 28 to answer charges of aggravated burglary, theft more than $500 and conspiracy.

He was out on bond on those felony charges when arrested for the new charges.
