Mississippi man nabbed in residential burglary

An alert neighbor and a speedy response by Crossville Police has resulted in the arrest of a Mississippi man who is accused of breaking into a residence earlier this week, according to reports.

Jeffery Randall Allen, 37, of Granada, MS, who also had listed on warrants a 94 Isham St. address, is charged with aggravated burglary and evading arrest and was placed under $6,000 bond. He is to make an appearance in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on Sept. 18.

Monday around 3 p.m. Anthony Gustin of Dorton Way resident called police and told them he suspected his neighbor's house was being broken into, according to Ptl. Johnathon O'Neal's report.

Gustin spotted a bald-headed man wearing sunglasses go around the west side of the Shaffer residence followed by dogs barking. The eye witness then heard a series of "crashing noises," so he walked behind a vehicle parked near the residence and wrote down the tag number on a 1990 red Jeep Cherokee.

He then walked to the rear of his neighbor's house and spotted the back door standing open. He then dialed 911 and called police to his location.

Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress and arrived in time to find a man inside the residence. That man fled out a side door and attempted to enter the Jeep Cherokee before being apprehended by Lt. Brian Tilley and O'Neal.

Police recovered two prescription bottles, four knives and three $2-dollar bills that belonged to the owner of the residence.

In the vehicle officers recovered a $300 guitar that also belonged to the victim.

A .22 rifle was also recovered from the Jeep Cherokee but it is unknown who that weapon belongs to.

Allen was then taken to the Justice Center where he was served with the two warrants.
