Nearly $75,000 in arts grants given to four local agencies

— The Tennessee Arts Commission has presented five grants totaling nearly $75,000 to Cumberland County groups and organizations, TAC Chairman Donna Chase announced. The grants are for Fiscal Year 2009.
Organizations receiving the grants locally are:
•Art Guild of Fairfield Glade for Art in Public Places, $2,900.
•Crossville Arts Council for Music on the Square, $6,000.
•Cumberland County Playhouse for guest dance instructors, $4,700.
•Cumberland County Playhouse for operating support, $58,300.
•Fair Park Senior Center for Artist of Color Education, $2,300.
Tennessee Arts Commission grants are made possible through an appropriation of state funds by the Tennessee General Assembly, federal dollars from the National Endowment for the Arts and Tennesseans who purchase speciality license plates.
"The state is indeed fortunate to have elected leaders who support the work of the Tennessee Arts Commission in building better communities through the arts," Chase said in a press release.
The commission will award over 850 grants totaling more than $7.2 million during Fiscal Year 2009. The funds have a direct impact on communities across Tennessee in both urban and rural areas.
The commission's allocation process involves a review by citizen advisory panels made up of Tennesseans with expertise in appropriate arts disciplines, and a review and final approval by the full 15-member Tennessee Arts Commission.
