With all the rain on Monday, on all hands it was remarked the fourth was the “dryest” holiday Crossville has seen in years.
The Midland survey found the highest point of the Plateau is west of the Johnson Stand. The elevation is 2,028 feet. Crossville is about 1,875 feet.
Mammy – We observed Children’s Day two weeks later than usual. There was singing and speaking by the children and preaching by Rev. Mr. Stewart, the circuit rider, who is a very able orator.

The site has been selected for the new hospital. The land was purchased from the seven Garrison heirs for $14,000. It is across from the high school. Architects will begin surveying soon.
June to September is the season when the ever-present threat of an infantile paralysis epidemic becomes more ominous. General precautions include: avoid overtiring, sudden chilling, avoid tonsil and adenoid operations during an epidemic, do not swim in polluted waters. Use personal cleanliness and drink only the purest milk and water.

14-year-old John Opfer, a ninth grade student at Martin Jr. High will fly to Moscow on July 14. He was one of twelve youngsters in the United States chosen to attend an international youth camp in the Soviet Union this summer. For five weeks youngsters from 52 countries will be telling about their countries and learning the importance of better relations between people.
In Carthage Albert Gore, Jr. announced his candidacy for President of the United States.
General Telephone crews have been busy in the county installing new telephone facilities to serve existing customers and to meet future growth.
