Somerset Hardwood Flooring recently purchased the former MasterBrand Cabinets plant in Crossville. The facility has been renamed Crossville Hardwoods and is currently operating as a hardwood lumber concentration yard.
At this time, 19 people are employed at the Crossville location, but according to George Crawford, vice president of Somerset Hardwood, plans are in the works to add secondary hardwood manufacturing in the next 12 to 18 months.
"Somerset's management is very impressed with the community and it's work force. The company looks forward to operating a growing plant in the Crossville area," Crawford said.
"As well as the work force and the infrastructure of the community, we were drawn by the fact that the plant is well located, has lots of room under roof and additional acreage for expansion," Crawford continued.
He also noted there are several sawmills within 75 miles of Crossville that are currently shipping much of their production out of state.
"We have been looking to expand our secondary wood product manufacturing into another area for a number of years," Crawford said. "Although the current economy may postpone our secondary manufacturing startup at Crossville for several months, we felt that we could not pass up the opportunity to purchase such a nice facility as the former Aristokraft plant."
Somerset Hardwood Flooring is a privately owned company based in Somerset, KY, and has been in business since 1985. The company employs 403 people.
