Suspects in county burglary also face drug charges

By Michael R. Moser / mmoser@crossville-chronicle.com

Two women arrested last week in connection with a residential burglary in the county are also facing drug charges after they allegedly were found in possession of illegal substances when stopped for questioning in the break-in, according to sheriff's department reports.

Charged with burglary and possession of Buspirone, a schedule II drug, are Crystal Jean Davis, 25, 118 Steve Tabor Rd., and Tiffany Hope Cooper, 21, 159 Mayberry St. Bond was set at $2,500 and a hearing is scheduled for Monday in Cumberland County General Sessions Court for both defendants.

A third defendant has been named in warrants but it is unclear if an arrest warrant has been served on that male suspect.

It all began May 7 when Tommy Button discovered suspicious activity taking place at the home of his late mother and father on Plateau Rd. Two females fled from the residence to a waiting vehicle and sped away. Sheriff's Investigator David Hamby reported. Button, however, was able to provide deputies with a description of vehicle and Deputy David Bowman found the 1999 silver Ford Taurus parked in the parking lot at Wal-Mart on Hwy. 127 N.

The two were nabbed without incident when they returned to the vehicle from the store. During a search of the vehicle, the pills were discovered, leading to the additional charges.

Button later determined that $500 damage was done to a door when entry was gained and that an undetermined amount of money, watches, jewelry and miscellaneous items were missing.
