LOOKING BACK: A weekly historical news feature

Sequatchie Valley was well represented at the Grandview commencement and everyone reported a good time while in Grandview. All enjoyed the ride home especially Ned Orms and Miss Recia Lee.

Isoline – A group of young men attended the dance in Crossville and had a most pleasant time but those who were not there wonder what kind of “nectar” they drank for they never came home till morning and one never at all. They went to bed and their cry at 6 in the evening was, “Oh, my head, my head.”

The Handle Mill is now assured for Crossville because the property belonging to Old Dominion Canning Co. is being sold to the two men starting the business. It will manufacture small tool handles and employ 25 to 30 men in the mill aside from those who will provide the hickory timber that will be used.

Hospital Day was celebrated on May 12 which is also Florence Nightingale’s birth date.

DeVaney Pharmacy installed a new soda fountain last week that has 12 faucets and carries hot and cold water. It also has the usual places for storing cream. The cold feature is Frigidaire. It is a very handsome fountain and contains many convenient features. It is in keeping with the remainder of the handsome equipment of that popular pharmacy and doubtless will prove quite a business puller.

Mrs. Minnie Hyder was the Crossville Chronicle’s choice for Mother of the Year based on a beautiful letter submitted by her daughter Frances Threet. Daughter Emille’s letter was responsible for her mother Joyce Udell being named Super Mom.

The Pleasant Hill Utility District serving Cumberland and White counties has launched a 16-mile water line expansive project and reports excellent progress 30 days into the job that is contracted for 180 working days.
