Suspect, girlfriend fight arrest of local man on warrants

By Michael R. Moser / mmoser@crossville-chronicle.com

A brouhaha broke out last week when Cumberland County sheriff's deputies attempted to serve warrants on a suspect for probation violations and for failure to appear in court. As a result, the suspect and his girlfriend are now facing new charges.

Scottie Dewayne Ingram, 32, 843 Grey Fox Dr., was placed on probation in Cumberland County Criminal Court on Dec. 19, 2006, after pleading guilty to a charge of theft more than $1,000. Because he had failed to maintain employment, failed to inform his probation officer of his residence and failed to pay probation fees, fine and court costs, a probation revocation warrant was issued for his arrest on March 27.

Attachments for failure to appear in General Sessions Court were issued for his arrest because he failed to keep an April court date.

On April 24 Sgt. Roy Kemmer, Deputy Jason Lanzilotta and Reserve Deputy Delmar Harville, acting on a tip, traveled to 62 Hog Waller Lane and found Ingram in a garage with a woman officers identified as a girlfriend, Kimberly Claborn Jones, 36, 843 Gray Fox Dr.

When Ingram spotted the deputies he allegedly attempted to run from officers but was nabbed by Kemmer and Lanzilotta. The officers allege Ingram started scuffling with officers, stabbing at the officers with a hypodermic needle. Harville came to the two deputies' aid and "was possibly stuck with the syringe, as was Deputy Lanzilotta," Kemmer wrote in his report.

Jones is accused of joining in the melee, grabbing the officers from the back and attempting to help her boyfriend escape. Ironically, Jones has an order of protection filed against Ingram.

A Taser weapon was deployed but seemed to have no effect on the suspect and Ingram was finally forcibly taken into custody. He was transported to Cumberland Medical Center for treatment of injuries suffered in the melee and then jailed at the Justice Center.

Lanzilotta and Harville were also treated in the emergency room.

In addition to the probation violation warrant and the attachment for failure to appear, Ingram was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault on an officer, resisting arrest, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of bond conditions.

Jones was charged with assault on an officer, posession of cocaine, simple possession of marijuana, obstruction of service of a legal writ and tampering with evidence for allegedly trying to swallow a small bag of marijuana.

Both were to appear in General Sessions Court on May 5 for hearings.
