State park's bridge on track to open by May 15

The Tennessee Department of Transportation reports the bridge deck has been poured on the historic Cumberland Mountain State Park bridge. TDOT said, if good weather continues, traffic will be back on the bridge by the May 15 target date. While additional work may remain after that time, TDOT spokesperson Jennifer Osborne said it would be under the bridge and would not affect traffic. Visitors to the park have been using a detour through Pigeon Ridge Rd. to access park cabins and the restaurant since work began in December. The arch deck masonry bridge was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It is the largest masonry project built by the CCC during the New Deal.
