Myriad activities on tap for Spring Flower and Garden Show

Entertainment schedule:

April 24:

2-3 p.m.: The Sounds of Brown's Gap bluegrass band

3-4 p.m.: Ann Looney on the accordion and her piano students

4-5 p.m.: Shirley and Jack O'Connor, piano duo

5-6 p.m.: Becky Pittman, piano



April 25:

9-10 a.m.: Carolyn Karl, flutist

10-noon: Crossville Dulcimores

Noon-2 p.m.: Nan Wilkins, electronic keyboard

2-3 p.m.: Annie Crabtree with piano students

3-4 p.m.: Rob Baker and Jack Melling, country musicians

4-5 p.m.: Sue Patrick with her magic special-effects keyboard



April 26:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Gary Barrett, country/gospel one-man band

1-2 p.m.: Rob Baker and Jack Melling

2-3 p.m.: Houston Vincent, violinist



The opening ceremony for the 2009 Spring Flower and Garden Show will begin with scholarship and booth awards at 1:45 Friday, April 24, at the entrance of the Community Complex at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds. Following the awards, Master Gardener Beth Morgan will play the bagpipes before the ribbon cutting. After studying in Scotland, Morgan has been playing for about 10 years and competes with the Knoxville Pipes and Drums. She is also available to play for local events.

There will be many flowers, plants, garden art and much more for sale at the show. The Master Gardeners will also have Supertunias. Supertunias excel in the landscape and as filler plants in mixed containers. They grow from 10-12 inches tall and spread well. These new petunia varieties are so packed with flowers that they definitely can dazzle on their own.

North Cumberland and Homestead Elementary students will also have garden scarecrows to show off at the show.
