H.C. Potter and William Scarbrough were over from Pleasant Hill yesterday. They say there is strong talk of incorporating the town with a view to maintaining better order.

At Waldensia the Chicago — Tennessee Coal and Coke Company continues to push the development of their coal properties with unabated vigor. They are now working in 30-foot coal and are preparing to take out 400 tons a day.

C.W. Widney, son of L.S. Widney, arrived here from Knoxville to take the position of typewriter in the Granite Realty and Investment Co. office for the manager, J.B. Johnson.

April 1929

Red Cross Relief Worker Miss Tyler got to Nashville from Hickman, Kentucky by freight in an effort to get to Harriman to help in the flood disaster. The Nashville paper chartered an airplane to fly her and a reporter with the pilot. They landed in Crossville and dispatched a message to learn where to land.

Mrs. Walter Stewart, little son and her sister, Miss Hattie Suttle of Pleasant Hill, left yesterday by car for St. Louis. They will pass the baseball season there while Mr. Stewart is pitching for the St. Louis Browns.

April 1993

County jobless rate drops 1%. Gov. McWherter said unemployment went down in 93 of Tennessee’s 95 counties.

The School Board work session brought differing opinions on the nepotism policy, an issue from the past. A specially called meeting next week will attempt to put the issue to rest.
