Crossville Police conducting a traffic enforcement checkpoint stopped the driver of a vehicle for not wearing a seat belt and stumbled onto components commonly associated with clandestine methamphetamine labs, according to police reports.
Gregory Thomas Horn, 34, 528 Hubert Conley Rd., and Gregory Aaron Reppert, 22, 910 Old Mail Rd., were both arrested and charged with manufacture, delivery or sale of meth and placed under $10,000 bond. Both are to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on April 7.
In addition, authorities charged Reppert with tampering with evidence and learned that there were three outstanding attachments against him for failure to appear in court, as well as an order to hold him for a show cause hearing, Ptl., Brandon Tollett wrote in his report.
City police were conducting the checkpoint on West Ave. in the area of Keyes St. on March 15 when Horn drove up to officers in a 2002 Chevrolet, Tollett wrote. After observing the seat belt violation, a check was run on the two men and police learned Reppert had outstanding warrants against him. At that time Reppert allegedly tossed a jar filled with liquid to the pavement, shattering it. Officers did recover enough of the substance to conduct a field test, according to them, a reading positive for the presence of meth was recorded.
Futher search of the vehicle yielded officers components common with the operation of a meth lab, including muriatic acid, PH test strips and a container of Sudafedrin pills.
Police also filed notice of intent to seize the vehicle because of the criminal activity alleged.
