A Cumberland County man accused of taking a truck belonging to a friend's father has been charged with stealing the vehicle and driving on a revoked license, according to sheriff's department reports.
Joshua Earl Hyder, 22, 37 Oxford Dr., is charged with theft more than $10,000 and driving on a revoked license and was placed under $25,250 bond with a March 19 date in General Sessions Court, according to Lt. Tom Howard's report.
Deputies responded to Lynch Rd. after Kurt Schmmel reported that his 2000 Ford F250 pickup had been stolen from his driveway by an acquaintance. Schmmel told deputies that he was in the bedroom of his home when a daughter told him that someone had just taken his pickup from the driveway, Howard wrote in his report. Schmmel called 911 and a description of the stolen vehicle was given to deputies.
Howard wrote that he spotted the vehicle and the suspect, along with a daughter of the victim, at Mr. Zip's on Peavine Rd. just minutes after the dispatch was issued.
Howard took the suspect into custody and was told by the suspect that he had permission from the owner to take the vehicle to the store to purchase cigarettes.
The owner was called to the scene, identified and recovered his pickup. He told investigators he did not give permission to the suspect to take the truck.
