The Cumberland County Vietnam Veterans are planning a big "Welcome Home" celebration in Crossville March 29 and 30 and are pleased to announce that Casey Scarlett as been chosen as Miss Welcome Home 2008.

Scarlett is the daughter of Darwin and Vicky Scarlett of the Homestead community and is a sophomore at Stone Memorial High School. Darwin and Vicky are owners of Scarlett's Auto Sales, LLC on Main St. in Crossville. Her older brother Eric attends Roane State Community College where he is pursuing a degree in computer science.

Scarlett is very active in school activities, is a straight A student, a member of the student council and secretary of her class. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, the Renaissance Club and Interact, a community services organization that assists in many local service projects. She is enrolled in several honors courses and also has an interest in drawing.

Scarlett is the center fielder of the Lady Panthers' softball team, which hopes to return to the state tournament this year after participating in 2007. She praised her teachers and coaches at Stone Memorial High School and described her teammates as good friends who enjoy playing in such a competitive district and region. Their season began March 1 and concludes May 1 with a home game against crosstown rival CCHS. Her ambition is to receive a softball scholarship to UT and to go to law school.

Scarlett and her family are active members of the Central Baptist Church in Crossville. She stated that even with all her school and extracurricular activities, the most important aspect of her life is her relationship with Christ and her family.

Organizers of the "Welcome Home" event stated that "Casey's personality and many achievements makes her the perfect choice for Miss Welcome Home."

Along with Mrs. Welcome Home, Keeli Kimbro Mjaatveit, Scarlett will officially greet the many veterans, families and friends attending "Welcome Home" March 29 and 30. The festivities begin with ceremonies at 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by a parade in downtown Crossville at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration, which includes speakers and entertainers Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Admission is free to all events.
