Fire swept through a double-wide mobile home Friday night, leaving a mother and her four children without a home and destroying nearly all their personal belongings.
Cumberland County firefighters were dispatched to the Tonya Denny residence on Woody Cemetery Rd. around 9:30 p.m. Friday after a nearby resident smelled smoke in the area, went out to investigate, and found the residence fully enveloped in flames. There was little firefighters could do by the time they were dispatched and arrived on the scene except keep the fire from spreading into the nearby woods.
Firemen were able to black out the fire not long after arriving but by then the damage had been done.
Denny shared the home with her four children, ages ten to 16. They were not home at the time of the fire and cause of the blaze remains unknown. No one was injured fighting the fire.
The Cumberland County Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to offer emergency assistance to the family.
