Budget amendments in excess of $50,000 needed for sheriff's department

It may seem like fun and games, but these six students from Stone Memorial High School in Crossville recently qualified to compete in the national finals of the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), the world’s largest and most prestigious model rocket contest.

  • Two killed in separate weekend crashes
    Two people died in single-vehicle crashes over the weekend in Cumberland County.

    The first crash occurred just before 8:30 a.m. Saturday on Hwy. 70 East. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, David O. Norris, 63, of Crossville, was traveling west when his 1994 Ford F150 pickup left the roadway.

    The second crash occurred just after 10 a.m. on Hwy. 70 West. Laura B. Whicher, 25, was traveling west when the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier hydroplaned and she lost control of the car. The vehicle traveled off the road and down an embankment. The vehicle overturned, partially ejecting the driver, before coming to rest on its top.
