Charles Lee Barnes, 68, of Crossville, passed away May 5, 2008. Funeral services were conducted May 9 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Lillard Stringer officiating. Interment was in Rinnie Cemetery.


Mr. Barnes was born July 4, 1939, in Rockwood, the son of William and Edith Marie (Davis) Barnes.


He was a preacher and of the Baptist faith. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.


Survivors include his wife, Shirley Temple (Walker) Barnes of Crossville; daughters, Athena Key of Crossville and Deborah Farley of Jamestown; son, Sam Barnes of Grimsley; sisters, Crystal Jackson of Tunnel Hill, GA and Elizabeth Ann Brendel of Crossville; and brothers, William "Bill" H. Barnes Jr. of Tunnel Hill, GA and Archie Carl Barnes of Crossville.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jewell Brendel and Ruth Barnes.


The Veterans Honor Guard served as pallbearers and provided full military honors.


Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
