Walter A. Matthews
Dec. 13, 1930 — March 19, 2008
Walter A. Matthews, 77, of Lake Tansi, passed away March 19, 2008. Funeral services were conducted March 22 at the Congregational Church in Burton, OH, with the Rev. Harry Buch officiating. Special music was provided by organist Jeanette Burnett and vocalist Dwight Skledar. Burial was in Welton Cemetery.
Mr. Matthews was born Dec. 13, 1930, in Burton, OH, the son of Sidney and Margaret Tuttle Matthews.
He retired from Atlanta Casualty as a computer analyst and was also a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he helped with SACS and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Matthews of Lake Tansi; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Laura Matthews of El Paso, TX and Chris and Mary Matthews of Norcross, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Linda Matthews of Lawrenceville, GA and Connie and Gregg Skledar of Danville, CA; sister, Jeanette Burnett of Burton, OH; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Scott and Betty Morrell.
Pallbearers were Greg Matthews, Chris Matthews, Jacob Matthews, Michael Matthews, Gregg Skledar and Kenny Burnett.
The family has respectfully asked that memorials be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 E. Adams St., Crossville, TN 38555.
Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
