CROSSVILLE — The Lake Tansi Bass Club has held its first three regular season tournaments. Each tournament affords members the opportunity to win the kitty for first, second and third place, as well as the awards for fourth place and second biggest fish sponsored by Mom’s Tackle Box. So far, these tournaments have been nail biters and every weigh-in is met with excitement and anxiety to see who will have the best numbers and the biggest fish.

Club members entered seven boats in the Bass Club’s first tournament on the gusty evening of April 18. “The wind was faster than what my boat would go,” said Bass Club member and competitor, Ralph Smith.

First place was snagged by Club President Casey Mullen and his father and fishing teammate, Fred Mullen with 16 pounds and 11 ounces. Second Place went to Ralph Smith and Rich Shadwell, Third Place went to Steven Cole and Ernie Reeves, and Mom’s Tackle Box award for Fourth Place was given to Jackie Cannon and Tim Vandever. Second biggest fish went to Casey Mullen and Fred Mullen.

The first tournament’s biggest fish award went to Steven Cole who caught a nice eight pound, two and a half ounce bass, which was 24 inches long and had an 18 inch girth, securing him as a serious contender for the biggest fish of the year award at the end of the season. Reluctant to have to return the fish back into the water, Steven Cole said, “This is the biggest fish I have ever caught in my entire life. He belongs on my wall.” Cole described the catch in one word, “Lucky,” as he said his line broke during the process of reeling in the biggest fish of his life, this tournament and, perhaps, of the year.

May 2 was the Bass Club’s 2nd tournament and had seven boats turn out. First place was Casey Mullen and Fred Mullen with 14 pounds, one ounce. Second was Mike Thompson and Kirk Miles, Third Place was caught by Don Moore who fished as a single this tournament, and Mom’s Tackle Box award for Fourth Place went to Steven Cole and Bill Roberts.

The biggest fish award went to Casey Mullen with four pounds and 11 ounces but did not beat first tournament’s biggest fish caught by Steven Cole

The Bass Club’s third regular tournament was held on Thursday May 16. Weather-worn but determined, eight boats set out to win the prizes and perhaps catch the biggest fish of the year. First place went to Mike Thompson and Kirk Miles with 12 pounds and four and a half ounces. Second Place was Don Moore and Cliff Fowler, Third Place went to Steven Cole and Bill Roberts, and Mom’s Tackle Box award for fourth went to Casey Mullen and Fred Mullen.

The biggest fish of tournament three went to Kirk Miles with three pounds, nine and a half ounces, but still didn’t oust the current the reigning contender, Steven Cole, whose fish remains the biggest of the year so far.

The Lake Tansi Bass Club will hold its fourth season tournament on May 30 and looks forward to seeing its membership continue to grow following Memorial Day.
