Everyone is looking forward to Memorial Day, otherwise known as opening day for Lake Tansi. With it, Memorial Day will bring the onset of warm weather, vacationing and will set the tone for the Thunderbird Recreation Center, where children’s activities will abound under the direction of Stephanie Tanksley. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.- noon, Tanksley will be teaching and assisting children of all age groups with crafts. From noon - 2 p.m., she will have the children involved in competitive games and activities outside (weather permitting).
“I’m excited,” said Tanksley. “I’m learning a lot of techniques and applications and getting to be creative while gathering ideas that are fun and inspiring for the children’s activities.”
Tanksley, who has worked for two years in the Game Room of the Thunderbird Recreation Center, is encouraged by the opportunity to be the director of children’s activities this year. She has several unique ideas about how to keep the kids engaged and entertained all summer long. A few of her crafting sessions will include many different and age-appropriate types of handi-crafts, such as sand art, tie-dye, bug catchers and even the trendy, Pinterest inspired “Galaxy Wear.”
“I am looking forward to sharing the crafts I have chosen for each age group,” Tanksley said. “I wanted to make sure to include children of all ages from toddler to teen.”
The schedule will generally be crafting on Mondays and Tuesdays so they will be ready for pickup with the option to do a small craft on Thursdays. This is especially convenient for timeshare visitors who often only stay for a week; children will be able to complete and pick up their crafts before they depart.
Aside from arts and crafts, other children’s activities include the outdoor sessions, contests, competitive games, and the like. Hole-in-one, putt-putt, hula-hoops, and more will surely be an extra reason to stay and play in Tansi starting Memorial Day.
