A letter of gratitude for Ken Soncrant

CROSSVILLE — Lake Tansi members were flabbergasted by the recent resignation of Recreation Department Director Ken Soncrant after 10 years of service and dedication to the community. After his resignation was accepted by the Tansi POA board, he was recognized for his commitment to Lake Tansi.

Betty Gates has been tapped for the position, and while everyone is excited about having her join the team, there is also the sentiment that Soncrant will be sorely missed.

“I don’t know where to start," said Recreation Department Assistant Manager Stephanie Tanksley with obvious fondness. "He was my mentor since I started working here. This summer would have been four years. [Soncrant] taught me everything I know about this place. He will definitely be missed.”

“I almost can’t believe it. Ken will be missed. He did so much for everyone,” said Gus Gocella, Crossville's representative for Honor Air Knoxville.

“I was very surprised," said Pat Sawchuk, president of the Small Pan Fish Club. "Ken has always helped the Pan Fish Club and worked really well with us. I can’t say enough about how much he always helped us. He will be deeply missed.” she said.

Soncrant is a loyal Tansi resident who served as Tansi Recreation Department Director for 10 years and had been a part of the team for several years even before that. The Lake Tansi POA board has expressed its dismay and remorse for having lost Soncrant as a leader and want him to know how much he has meant to them and how much they appreciate him. The overwhelming outpouring of understanding on the part of Soncrant’s supporters goes without saying in regards to the stresses this position inherently can carry. Tansi has welcomed the new director and is excited about Gates’ enthusiasm, hoping she makes a good transition and encourages participation and growth in the community.

“[Resigning] was best thing I could do for Tansi right now,” Soncrant said. “I am happy to help Betty as she directs the department, if she ever needs anything. I think it would be really nice, as long as I’m not in charge.”

Soncrant is now enjoying getting back to all the things he’s neglected, including himself. He’s is preparing himself for a new start, rethinking his life’s passions and reevaluating his priorities while he keeps his hands busy working on his house.

“I’m getting back to being a person,” Soncrant said, and with an optimistic catch in his throat, “Tansi is my favorite thing in the world.”
