The Lake Tansi Community Association meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Thunderbird Recreation Center for a potluck to be held at 6 p.m., and all members of Lake Tansi are invited to attend. We are proud to present our featured entertainment for the month of March, Jay David.
Crossville has a piece of big band era history in its midst in the form of Jay David, a crooner whose voice remains strong, smooth and reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Dean Martin. David's voice and style exemplify the
way singers help to add romance and charm to big band appeal. Whether he is singing classic or contemporary tunes, David is a local entertainer with a broad repertoire and an engaging manner.
During his performing years, David has made a career of singing his favorite tunes with numerous bands. Highlights include many successful tours with well known big bands, including the bands of Xavier Cugat, Frankie Carle, Bobby Roberts and Jay Jerome.
David is no stranger to television performances. In 1950, he took first place on The Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts television program. Although audience input on the show consisted of an applause meter instead of an 800 number, the show
was the 50's version of American Idol, launching the careers of such notables as Vic Damone, Eddie Fisher, Connie Francis and Steve Lawrence. Godfrey's series in CBS primetime was the cornerstone of CBS' night time lineups. Additionally, David appeared on Ed McMahon's Variety Show on a CBS affiliate in Philadelphia.
Other highlights of David's career include being a recording artist with Comstock Records, LTD and traveling to England to sing at the International Jazz Festival with the Arizona Big Band. Over the years, as the owner of Jay David Musical Entertainment Company in Pennsylvania and Arizona, David has kept himself and his band members busy. David's dedication to his musical career often resulted in more than 200 bookings per year.
These days, however, David and his wife, Sandy, residents of Fairfield Glade, combine work and travel as he performs in retirement communities in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and Florida. Don't miss Jay David's performance at the March 18 meeting of the Lake Tansi Community Association.
