Dance the night away with the Tansi Dance Club

CROSSVILLE — Keeping warm as the flurries came down, Tansi Dance Club members, residents, family and friends danced the night away on Friday, March 1. “Dancing the Night Away" is hosted by the Tansi Dance Club at the Thunderbird Recreation Center on the first Friday of every month from 7-10 p.m. It is an adult dance and admission is $6, which goes toward the entertainment. Dancers bring a snack to share and their choice of beverages from tea to wine.

Serenaded by local musician and entertainer Dennis Long, the crowd was motivated by each number including favorites from the American Bandstand, golden oldies, classic country and today’s hits. The dance floor was full from line dancing to the Electric Slide and Cupid Shuffle and polka dancing to classic country. Long then broke out his acoustic guitar with a cover of Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” where some couples swing danced, others free danced and several line danced. Then Long’s cover of Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup” brought about the onset of a serious two-step outbreak. With each song, couples were inspired to put their dancing skills to the test from the Blue Roses couples line-dance to West Coast and East Coast Swing.

In fact, dancing is how one lovely couple met and now share a passion for dancing at the Tansi Dance Club dances. “We met dancing and have been inseparable ever since," said Jan Johnson of Crossville. She attended a swing dance class in Nashville where she met Bobby Johnson and his sister Sherry Daily, who were also taking lessons. Jan and Bobby Johnson were married in December. Daily came up to visit her brother and new sister-in-law and accepted the invitation to attend her first ever Tansi Dance Club dance. “We like it here because it’s close and very friendly and welcoming,” said Jan. Bobby agreed saying, “It’s a good atmosphere.”

Ending the night on a great note, Dennis Long sang “Goodnight Sweetheart” and all of the couples embraced in a slow dance one more time until the next “Dancing the Night Away” date on April 5.

In the meantime, dancers were encouraged to attend the Fair Park Senior Center dance on the second Saturday of each month from 7-10 p.m. at the Fair Park Senior Center to help raise funds for a new bus.
