Gary Laura receives Melvin Jones award and Lion of the Year

King Lion Marva Farden presented the "Melvin Jones Fellow award and the "Lion of the Year" award to Lion Gary Laura at the Crossville Lions Club 12th annual picnic and initiation of officers on July 8.

Gary has been a Lion for five years and has served the district as Tail Twister for two years and along with his wife, Eileen, has served on the committee for the Tennessee School for the Deaf.

He was recognized for serving the Crossville Lions Club as Tail Twister for four years and participating in all the clubs fund raising and community service projects, including Kidssight, photo screening, working with Habitat for Humanity, Coats for the Cold, Good Program and candy and nuts fundraiser, just to name a few." The Melvin Jones award is the highest award given a Lion member and is named in honor of the founder of todays Lions Club.

The Crossville Lions Club is a community service organization that meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at Shoney's. "We Serve So Others Might See."
