Brown Elementary School wraps up year in style

The last days of school at Frank P. Brown Elementary were filled with activity. Many classes and groups enjoyed field trips to various locations. Some of these excursions included: the Sustainability Fair, Tennessee Aquarium, Cumberland Caverns, the Palace Theatre, and Lake Tansi beach and recreation areas.

Students also participated in several educational programs at the school. Pre-K through fourth grade learned about seatbelt safety from a program presented through Tennessee Technological University. The Obed Watershed Community Association presented a water conservation program on May 18.

A variety of talent was presented at the Student Council Talent Show on May 15. Eighth-grade student Vincent Stanco placed first with a guitar solo. Lauren Thompson and Samantha Howard, also eighth graders, placed second for their vocal duet, and Bree Monday earned a third-place award for her vocal performance.

The final PTO meeting was held on May 21, followed by the year end Band and Strings performance. Science Fair projects were also completed and on exhibit during the week. Judges awarded Josh Sisco with the grand prize, Bailey Threet with first prize, Megan Johnson with second, and Joan Pugh for third. Bailey Thompson and Mikayla Snowden each earned honorable mention. On May 26, the recognition program was held for grades one through seven. Academic, character, music, physical education, and principal’s awards were presented. The Brown Elementary School choir, directed by Marty Gibson, performed several classic songs, including, “This Little Light of Mine.”

After the extended Memorial Day weekend, students in all grade levels participated in field days. Children enjoyed outdoor games, treats, and activities on May 28 and 29.

The eighth-grade recognition program was held on the evening of June 2. Students were rewarded for academic successes as well as for good character, principal’s awards, attendance, and other special awards. The top five academic awards were presented to Landon Crawford, Samantha Howard, Lauren Thompson, Clayton Collins, and Bailey Threet. Catherine Thomas and Sharon Ulloa were recognized for perfect attendance for the academic year. Samantha Howard was presented with the DAR citizenship award, and Landon Crawford received the Woodmen of the World history award.

A heartfelt thank you to our community for your support throughout this academic year!
