Welch walks for cancer research and outreach programs – Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day

In October 2008, Peggy Welch of Lake Tansi Village will join thousands of other dedicated women and men at the Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust. Participants will walk 60 miles during three days to raise funds for critical breast cancer research and community outreach programs.

Welch was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2006, and thanks to surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, she is a survivor. She sees the three-day event as an opportunity to fight back, to raise awareness in her immediate community, as well as raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.

“Most of my training walks will be right here in the Lake Tansi community, and I’m hoping many residents will be inspired to pitch in with a donation, no matter how big or small!”

Welch said she will walk over 900 miles to prepare for the event.

“As a 'Breast Cancer 3-Day' participant, I celebrate breast cancer survivorship. I honor those who lost their lives to the disease. And with the help of those willing to financially support my efforts, I want to make an enormous impact on awareness and funding for breast cancer research,” said Welch.

Walkers are required to raise a minimum of $2,200 in order to participate in the event. Welch has set her personal fundraising goal at $5,000.
