The clouds from the night before blew out of the area and the sun shined brightly on Lake Tansi and the 38 couples signed up to play in the Couples League Mid-season Tournament. A great day of golf and fellowship was followed by a tasty picnic catered by Big Boy’s Barbeque and more laughter and conversation.
Joe and Linda Roper, league officers, took charge of arranging a wonderful picnic for the league. They quickly enlisted the help of Bud Fray to work on prizes and donations. Up to his usual standard, Bud did a wonderful job, and water and sodas were plentiful and in coolers on the front and back nine as well as in abundance at the picnic.
Ten dollars was presented to the winners of the closest to the pin on #12 for men (Joe Rummel) and women (Peggy Nicholas), as well for the closest to the lines for men on #16 (Ron Miller) and for women on #9 (Barb Brown).
Four places were awarded for each low gross and low net to be calculated into the total points awarded for the year.
All prize money will be awarded at the year-end banquet in October. Names were drawn to give away six door prizes. Janet Hurley won a gift certificate for a large pizza donated by Exxon Happy Sak, Pauline Sherrer and Bob Thomas won $25 gift certificates from Save-a-Lot. Bud Fray, Judy Sutton and Carol Trimble won hanging basket plants donated by Kmart.
Additional sponsors included Cumberland County Bank, Kroger, Dollar General, Wal-Mart, Sav-a-Lot, Food City, Flowers Bakery, and Pepsi Cola Corporation.
Everyone had a good day and once again counted their blessings to be living in Lake Tansi and Crossville.
