Lake Tansi recreation update

We have had a very exciting couple of months at the Thunderbird.

It started in March with our beef stroganoff dinner on Saturday, March 3. We had a great turnout and want to thank everyone for coming out and supporting your recreation department.

Then we turned to our annual Best Chili Contest on the March 21. We want to thank everyone who entered, and, trust us, we enjoyed trying them all! However, we could only have four winners and they were: Sally English, first prize; Chris Porter, second prize; Brenda Wyatt, third prize; and Marie Callas won for hottest with flavor. Congratulations to all the winners, and if you think you’ve got the best chili recipe, come out and enter the contest next year! We ended the month of March on a high note with the adult dance. It was on Saturday, March 23, and we had Mike Livingston doing his first DJ-ing job with us. He had all types of music from the 1940s to today, and he took requests. Mike also DJ-ed the adult dance on Friday, May 8. We again had a great time dancing the night away! The recreation department would like to thank Mike and everyone who attended the dances.

In April we were all excited about the Easter Bunny coming to Tansi. We would like to first of all send a special thanks to all our regulars that came out to dye Easter eggs for us. On Saturday, April 11, the rain didn’t deter the parents or kids for coming out for the annual Easter Egg and Candy Hunt. We had around 65 kids that attended with their Easter baskets ready to fill, and did they fill them. The recreation department would like to thank everyone for bringing the kids out and making it a very festive morning. On Saturday, April 18, we had an Easter Bunny Potpie Dinner (no bunnies were hurt to make this event happen). Kenny and Michelle made some scrumptious vittles for all of us to eat! Thanks to both of them and for all who attended and supported us.

We then turned our thoughts to the skies and had our first Design A Kite Contest on Saturday, April 24. We had a lot of fun offering this event to Tansi residents. We had a good turnout and really enjoyed spending time with all the people who came to show their creative sides. All the designs were great and every child who attended received a prize. We did have two big winners: Madi McLaughlin got first prize in the children’s category, and Stanley Watkins got first prize in the adult category. We would like to thank the Watkin family, the Frady family, the Ramsey family and the Reagan family for joining us.

We ended the month of April with a "Treasure Sale" on Thursday, April 30, presented by the recreation committee. There was a great turnout of vendors, with all kinds of wonderful things to buy. It was a fun day with lots of people coming out and buying all the things for sale. We would like to thank the recreation committee and all the people who brought out their things to sell.

Get your bathing suits ready! The recreation amenities will be open full time starting Saturday, May 23, through Monday, Sept. 7.

Hours are as follows:

Game room – every day, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Outdoor pool – every day, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. (adults must accompany kids under 12)

Children’s activities are 1-3 p.m. We, here at the recreation department, are looking forward to a great season with all of you! Come out and join us this summer!
