Lake Tansi Community Association considers volunteering at Brown Elementary

The Lake Tansi Community Association held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Thunderbird Recreation Center. In charge of the decorations were Shirley Jarner, Pat Devos and Jack and JoAnn Kelso.

Gus Gocella gave the invocation. Following the invocation, Nancy Roehlig led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Community Association members with birthdays and/or anniversaries in February were recognized; first time members and visitors were welcomed. Table numbers were then called and everyone shared in the bountiful and delicious food provided by our members.

Our speaker for the evening was Kari Rockwell, the volunteer coordinator for Brown Elementary School. She explained the need for volunteers at the school to mentor children with reading, math or science problems. She stated that approximately 80 percent of the children at Brown Elementary School are in the low income bracket. Many children just need someone to read to them or help with homework. She explained that if a volunteer works alone with a student, a background/fingerprint check must be done. The cost for this is $60. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the school.

Brown Elementary School is also in the process of preparing a float for the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home parade on March 29. Anyone interested in helping with this project is welcome.

Next month’s meeting will be on March 18 at 6 p.m. at the Thunderbird. Our decorating committee will be Mary Lou and Rich Holton, Betty and Roger Quast and Cheryl and Tracy Scrimsher. Our program for the evening will be “Spring Gardening” with Bob Washburn from Wolf River Valley Growers.

If you have friends or you know of people who are new to Lake Tansi, or long-timers for that matter, don’t forget to invite them to participate with us in the Community Association. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month. To join this wonderful Lake Tansi organization, just contact Gary Rabuck at 788-1748 after 6 p.m. Membership dues are only $6 per person or $12 per couple per year. Please plan on joining us.
