Brown hosts regional chess tournament

The Tennessee Regional Scholastic Chess Tournament was held at Brown Elementary School on Jan. 26. Over 90 students participated from 25 counties in the Region 2 area.
The Brown Bears Chess Team was well represented, with Alecia Back, Brandon Busby, Kayla Gill and Brandon Back earning blue ribbons. Brandon Back also received a trophy for Top Under 1000. In the elementary division, Cary Carter finished with a second-place trophy and Brianna Gill finished with a 10th-place trophy. In the junior high division, Lucas Edmonds finished with a third-place trophy and Brandon Brewer finished with a fourth-place trophy.
Cary Carter, Brandon Brewer, and Lucas Edmonds all qualified to compete in the Tennessee State Scholastic Chess Tournament to be held on Feb. 16 at Tennessee Technological University. We are so proud of our Brown Bears Chess Team. The Brown Bears Chess team is sponsored by fourth-grade teacher Michelle Wilson and coached by Harry Sabine.
