New security measures keep Brown Elementary School safe

Brown Elementary School is back in session after the two week winter break. We are beginning the new year with advanced security features throughout our school.

Funding from a federal grant has allowed 14 security cameras to be installed inside and outside of the building with front office surveillance.

In addition, a front door security system that includes a video camera and speaker has been installed. When visitors wish to enter throughout the day, the front door will have to be electronically unlocked from the school office.

We are very excited about a third security measure that we now have in place. Brown Elementary is the first school in Tennessee to implement the VSoft Visitor Management Security System. This system, which was installed through a U.S. Department of Justice grant, was developed by Raptor Technologies to track visitors and volunteers as well as students and faculty.

"Visitors will be asked to present their license, which will be scanned and compared with sex offender registries," said Greg Goedke with Raptor Technologies.

The system can also alert school personnel and law enforcement if someone is on the school grounds that may compromise the safety of the school.

Christie Thompson, Brown Elementary vice principal, said, "We are excited about this opportunity to improve security throughout the building."

Brown Elementary students and staff would like to extend wishes for a Happy New Year.
