Christ Lutheran Church hosts First Ordination

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — On Saturday Feb. 16, Fairfield Glade resident Laura Shally was administered the Rite of Ordination before a full sanctuary at Christ Lutheran Church on Snead Drive here in the Glade. Having retired from the U.S. Army, she and her husband, Tim, moved to our community in 2005. After becoming very involved in church and community functions, Laura decided to seek a second career in Christian ministry and entered the Lutheran Seminary in Columbia South Carolina. Having served a vicarage in Michigan and having finished her final year at seminary, Laura and Tim returned to the Glade and waited for a call from an ELCA congregation in the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Following ordination, The Reverend Laura J. Shally will be serving as pastor and mission developer of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Loudon, TN. This growing mission congregation serves the residents of Tellico Village and the surrounding area.

Bishop H. Julian Gordy, Bishop of the Southeastern Synod of the ELCA, presided at the ordination and was assisted by Jenny Barnes, CLC pastor. While several area ELCA clergy participated in various aspects of the service, retired Pastor Joe Nilsen, member of Christ Lutheran, delivered the homily directed to Laura as she enters this new phase of service to her Lord. Many CLC congregation members contributed to the service including: lector, eucharistic ministers, organist, CLC Chancel Choir, tenor soloist, acolyte, crucifer, greeter/ushers, sound technicians and altar guild members.

Following the service, Laura greeted the large crowd in a fellowship hall at a reception catered by Big Boy’s Barbeque. Attendees included friends, family, clergy, neighbors, fellow members of the Fairfield Glade Volunteer Fire Department, and many members of her new parish in Loudon. All wished her God’s Blessings as she embarks on her first pastorate.
