Ladies Club to hold Christmas Luncheon Dec. 4

CROSSVILLE — Tis the season – almost! With that in mind, mark Dec. 4 for the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club Christmas Luncheon and meeting. Brian and Amanda Bacon will share their musical talent as they entertain with the sounds of Christmas. The Conference and Visitor Center will be decorated for the season, and your holiday attire will add to the ambiance.

President Viva Bosland has invited Karen Allen to give the invocation. Mark Pfaffenroth, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

The service committee has designated the House of Hope as the recipient of the generosity of members and guests at the December meeting. The facility is the first stop for youngsters who must be removed from their homes for their own safety. They arrive with nothing more than the clothes on their back and even those must be destroyed if their home doubled as a meth lab. Clothing is needed for all ages and sizes (infant through teens) — hoodies, sweat suits, hats, sox, sweaters, gloves/mittens, underwear, pajamas, etc. Please remember to pick up an extra item when you are shopping for the children in your life and bring it to the meeting. Of course, a monetary donation is always welcome and will be used wisely.

As always, baskets for the donations of hotel toiletries will be available. For health reasons, only unopened items are accepted. If you are headed on a winter vacation, remember to save those goodies… the shelters and veterans facilities will be extremely grateful it will help stretch tight budgets.

The travel committee will be front and center with brochures describing available trips. If you are going on the Charleston trip, be sure to pick up your travel packet if you have not already done so. Rosemary reports that four cabins are still available for the European River Boat Cruise. The committee is already working on trips for 2015. How does Ireland and Scotland in May 2015 sound? There are day trips to the theatre in Nashville and symphony in Knoxville and you might want to get on the waiting list.

There are frequently cancellations, so always keep the date open. There is a good chance you will be called. No money is due until you are called to fill a vacancy. There are just a few tickets left for the Lady Vols/Notre Dame Basketball game on Jan. 19. If you are relatively new to Tennessee, this is an experience not to be missed. There are a few seats left on “The Bourbon Trail” trip to the Lexington, KY, area in April. There is a reason the area is known for horses, bourbon and bluegrass and you will learn just what that is.

Sharon Gee and Diane Wilmer, co-chairs of the fashion show, will begin taking reservations at the December meeting. It seems like a long time, but April 2 is only four months in the future. Sales begin in December as a courtesy to the “snowbirds.” A full table or individual seats may be reserved.

Reservations for the luncheon will be accepted Wednesday, Nov. 27, between 8 and 10 a.m. Call 210-0067 or, perhaps easier, email anytime between now and Nov. 27. If you choose this method, a confirmation email will be sent. Be sure to provide the names of all those who wish to sit together when making your reservation. Luncheon is always $13 and, if a cancellation is not received by Friday, Nov. 29, you will be responsible for the cost of the meal. The menu will feature pork loin with cherry sauce as well as Chef Jerry’s sides and, as always, a sweet surprise ending.

Rob is a course maintenance employee reporting to Dorchester Superintendent Mike Wilson. My friend and I often comment about the excellent condition of our courses and since we had opportunity to pass a compliment on to Rob, we did.
