Board passes 2014 budget

Incorporation survey planned for Spring 2014

CROSSVILLE — On Nov. 21, the Fairfield Glade Community Club Board of Directors conducted the monthly meeting, unanimously passing the budget for 2014 without debate or dissenting comment from the floor.

"The increased assessments to members called for in this budget are modest, while still allowing for funding maintenance and improvements expected by community club membership," said President Phil Gover.

The board has further agreed that a member survey will be conducted by an independent third party in spring 2014 to determine if there is enough support from the membership to employ a professional service for a feasibility study and detailed plan with regards to incorporation. As these survey plans are developed, they will be shared.

The board has approved club members to serve on various committees to serve in 2014. "We're thankful that volunteerism is alive and well in Fairfield Glade," said Gover.

General Manager Bob Weber reported that bids for the Druid Hills pool facility have been sent out and will hopefully be back in before Thanksgiving. The results of those bids will be relayed at the next board meeting.

An agreement has been signed with Upland Design to provide the architecture for the Dorchester Club House. The conceptual plans should be made available for member comment sometime in the first quarter of 2014, according to Weber.

Regina Welch reported that the club is overall favorable to the budget by almost $100,000. Current assets are valued at twice the club's liability. Golf was down about $30,000 for the month of October and $154,000 for the year. Rain contributed greatly to the decrease.

Several appropriations requests were passed, including $24,000 for salt bins for the Road Department, $22,500 for residing and deck for the Multi-purpose Building (work to begin soon on the exterior), and $260,000 for floating docks at St. George Marina. These docks will include about 45 slips and can be added to if necessary.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12.
