Steel rebar cycle at Shanks Center

CROSSVILLE — When Jeff Dawley began welding steel rebar over a year ago, little did he realize that it would be displayed in the Shanks Center for the Arts, Crossville, Tenn. The dimensions of Dawley’s cycle are 60" length, 26" high, 20" wide and probably weighs 200 pounds. Often used as a tensioning device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures, Dawley has literally turned the rebar (short for reinforcing bar) into a work of art in its own right.

Dawley’s cycle will be on display through June 1, during regular business hours, Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Shanks Center of the Arts is located at 140 North Main Street, across from the Depot, Crossville Tenn. There is parking available behind the Center at Taylor and Thurman Avenues. Telephone 931-787-1936.

The Shanks Center houses three gallery rooms of original fine art, a gift shop with books and CDs, all by local and regional artists, authors, musicians. During May, the Warehouse Gallery has an excellent exhibit of the original works of master artist, Eric Buechel.
