FFG Hiking Group to hike close to home

CROSSVILLE — On Friday, Nov. 16 the Fairfield Glade Hiking Group will travel down Rt. 68 to the trailhead of Brady Bluffs and hike up part of the Cumberland Trail for a scenic view of Grassy Cove from the top of Brady Mountain. We will also see a neat arch and the wreckage of an airplane. We will return on the same trail to the cars. The distance of the trail is five miles, 2.5 miles straight up and 2.5 miles straight down, but it's is still rated moderate. Bring your lunch as we will eat at the top of the mountain.

Difficulty: The hike isn't that long, but it is a good uphill climb. Boots are required.

Hiking has risks and safety is a high priority on every outing. Hazards include uneven trails, drop-offs, slippery rocks and roots, stream crossings, wildlife encounters, auto accidents, and more. The hiking group assumes no collective or individual liability for any mishaps.

Boots or lug soled hiking shoes are necessary to help prevent falls on slippery trails. Always bring plenty of water, insect repellent, and rain gear. Remember, all hiking is at your own risk. It is each person’s responsibility to be in good physical condition to attempt this hike.

There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board across from the Fairfield Glade Post Office for each hike. The group will depart from the parking lot closest to the 4-way stop sign in FFG at the corner of Peavine and Stonehenge at 8 a.m. sharp. Please be there between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. to receive information and form carpools. If you ride with someone else to and from the hike the policy is to reimburse the driver for gas. The amount to reimburse the driver for this hike is $2  per person. Please have the correct amount.

For more information call the leaders of the hike Gary and Sharon Moore at 210-6210. Please check out our website by going to Google and typing in “FFG Hiking.”
