The Fairfield Glade Lion Club selects a member each year that has given 10 years of dedicated service to Lionism. The award is called “Lion of the Decade” and Venita McAlvey has met this criteria and much more.
Venita has served the Club as Chaplain for the past five years. In addition, she has volunteered her time to serve hearing and vision testing of school children, white cane days, cheese sale and as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer. She and her Lion husband, Warren, also act as the co-chair of the Adult Eye Glass Program.
Venita was selected for the 2013 award by Dave Dougherty who was honored last year. Dave commented,"I look forward to hearing Venita’s prayer at the beginning and completion of each meeting. She offers it from her heart and sends us home with a request for God’s blessings.”
The motto for Lions Clubs International is “We Serve.” They are the largest service organization in the world with major concerns for helping sight and hearing. The FFG Lions Club has provided community service since March 1976 to both youth and adults.
The Fairfield Glade Lions Club can always find a project for their members to provide a way to give back to the community and make it a better place to live. Club meetings are the third Monday of each month at the Druid Hills Country Club. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. with a dinner meal and guest speaker. Please call Membership Chairman Dan Richardson at 510-5830 for more information.
