Fire department battles blaze

CROSSVILLE — The Fairfield Glade Fire Department received a call of a structure fire early Sunday morning from 911 Dispatch.

The fire was called in by a member of Fairfield Glade Fire Department, who saw a large orange glow coming from a wooded area down the hill from his location.

When the first engines and fire personnel arrived, they had to stretch some 1,200 ft of supply line to reach the front of the structure. The two story structure had the right side of the roof burned off, and the roof had collapsed along with the floor onto the lower level.

"I believe that the fire had been burning for some time and had a very big head start on us," said Fairfield Glade Fire Chief Howard Robb. "This fire had plenty of time to spread, and it spread quickly."

Some 32 Fairfield Glade firefighters worked well into the night and the early morning hours on May 5 to extinguish what was left of the new unoccupied structure that was under construction and nearing completion. All available personnel and equipment responded quickly to the scene.

The Cumberland County Sheriff Department fire investigator is investigating to determine the cause of the fire.

Stay safe, alert and keep your neighborhood safe as well.
