At the April 25 FGCC Board meeting President Bob Stackhouse made a special point to praise Pat Davis for her 35 years of service to Fairfield Glade. Whether she is working with management, co-workers, the board of directors or volunteer committees she always goes above and beyond what she is asked to do.
“Pat, we thank you for your hard work and dedication,” Stackhouse said.
Stackhouse updated the possibility of closing the FG post office. He said that negotiations continue, which so far has increased the annual subsidy from $31,000 up to $38,000 plus a reduction of the required business hours. The board of directors will make no decisions until negotiations are finalized and in writing.
The Dorchester pool cabana and the St. George Pavilion kitchen are now under roof. The rough-in plumbing and electrical work is in process. Members are asked to stay away from the construction sites. Both projects will be finished by the first of June. The Druid Hills pool cabana plans will be ready by June and published for member review and comments.
Stackhouse announced that the United States Department of Agriculture will visit FFG to address the geese population which is becoming a health hazard. The geese are taking over the beaches and have been a big problem on the golf courses. USDA will hold a town hall meeting on May 7 from 3-5 p.m. to address the situation as to what can be done to alleviate this serious health hazard. There will be a power point presentation that will be followed by a Q&A session.
There will be a director at large position opening this year. Election notices will go out in May via email and newspaper notices. Members will be able to pick up an application in June. At the end of July there will be a town hall meeting so members can meet the candidates. Election ballots go out in August. Election results will be announced at a town hall meeting to be held on the third Friday in September.
General Manager Bob Weber announced the hiring of Mary Jo Paige as Director of Marketing.
Harry Price, for the ACC Committee, reported YTD as of March: 19 single family detached homes; there were no manufactured or mobile homes; 51 new homes under construction and 14 new home completions; 138 miscellaneous constructions were approved.
JoAnn Faulds, Golf Committee Chair, said a re-evaluation of handicap rules is being conducted by the Handicap Committee. The committee is meeting with course superintendents to learn all that is involved in their jobs.
Sue Allen, Racquet Sports Committee, reminded everyone that the first ever pickleball tournament will be held the first weekend of May. There will be a dinner Friday night and a wine and cheese party Saturday night. Members can sign up at the Tennis Center. Pickleball players are asked to fill out the pickleball survey and to make any suggestions for improvements. An all-inclusive tennis pass for $450 is being offered for unlimited outdoor play including the use of the ball machine. Tournament entry fees are not included. Call the Tennis Center for details.
Dave Bouque reported the Strategic Planning Committee has submitted a priority policy for clearing the 110 ‘A’ lots now in the club’s inventory: 1. Sale for the purpose of home construction. 2. Sale to an adjoining property owner for a lot merger. 3. Trade outs to achieve lot consolidations. 4. Lastly, conversion to alternative uses. The 830 ‘B’ and ‘C’ lots will be more difficult to liquidate. ‘C’ lots have no water or sewer available. The committee will work on solutions to be able to consolidate those lots into larger useful properties.
John Conrad, Trails Committee, said a new Wexford woodland trail is open that parallels Stonehenge Drive; however, signs are not posted yet. The Garden Club has been contacted to see if they would like to identify plants and trees along the trails.
Regina Welch reported cash on hand at the end of March was $4 million. The Amenity Reserve Fund grew $20,000 the first quarter and now totals $238,000. The refinancing of the Community Center loan has been completed which will save the club interest charges. There are now 2,100 delinquent lots as of March 30. The club’s inventory of returned lots is 941.
Public Safety Chief Hoover and Fire Chief Robb both reported a very safe March with low activity in both areas.
Tim Martin, Public Works, reminded everyone that Eagle Lane and Fairway Drive were supposed to be paved by the county last year. However, it wasn’t done due to weather. The county has promised to do both within a month. Bids are going out on roads that will be done this year by the club.
James Ivankovich, Food and Beverage, reported the restaurants had a good month in March. Also, the reduced operating hours November through March at the Legends Restaurant resulted in a savings of $45,000. The Relish Café in the Community Center will be open 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. daily. Legends Restaurant and Stonehenge Grill Specials for the month of May will be advertised in the Glade Sun and the website.
A question was asked about the prizes that were discontinued for the weekly playing card events at the Stonehenge Grill. The playing card events are still going on. However, prizes can no longer be awarded since it was discovered that the State of Tennessee considers prizes for playing cards to be gambling and thereby illegal. President Stackhouse explained that prizes can be awarded for games of skill like golf; but not for games that the State of Tennessee considers to be gambling, like card games and bingo.
Steve Kraft, Golf Director, reported that March was below budget by 2,420 rounds which was the worst March in the last 13 years. He pointed out this March had only six of 31 days with the temperature above normal. March 2012 there were 27 days above normal. Rain and cold weather reduces golf rounds.
The board approved the ACC New Home policy that had been on the website for 30 days. The new Trails Notification policy was also approved by the board.
Appropriation Requests approved by the board: Dartmoor Lake spillway project for $196,000 which is below the $220,000 budget and $171,900 for budgeted Facilities Maintenance.
The FFG community is invited to Mirror Lake at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, to pray for our nation.
During floor comments the need to hire a marketing director was questioned. Bob Weber explained that large resort communities, such as Fairfield Glade ($20 million budget), need a dedicated marketing director focused on both internal and external marketing. Bob Stackhouse explained that when Tommy Lee left, James Ivankovich took over Food and Beverage and Tim Martin took over some of the recreation duties. Then, the community club was able to hire a fully dedicated marketing director while still achieving a net payroll savings. Weber said that Lee had too much on his plate and was spread too thin.
