Playhouse to hold auditions for Diary of Anne Frank

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County Playhouse will hold auditions for their upcoming production of The Diary of Anne Frank on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Playhouse.

The following young roles available are:

• Anne Frank (lead) — must play 13 to 15.

• Margot Frank — must play 16 to 18.

• Peter Van Daan — must play 16 to 18.

In addition to experienced actors in their early to mid-teens for the roles listed above, older actors who have the ability to appear younger onstage will also be considered.

The role of Mrs. Van Daan has been cast. However, other adult roles in the play are available:

• Otto Frank (lead), 40s

• Edith Frank, 40s

• Miep Gies, 20s to early 30s

• Mr. Kraler, 40s

• Mr. Van Daan, 40s to 50s

• Mr. Dussel, 40s

• Three men (smaller character roles), 20s to 60s; minimal dialogue, all in German.

A note on the role of Anne: The younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Anne is a lively, curious girl of 13 at the beginning of the play. Extraordinary in her vitality, optimism, hunger for knowledge and creativity, she is also a moody, sensitive young woman who can, by her own admission, occasionally be mean to those around her, though she struggles not to be.

As the play’s lead, Anne has a large number of lines, some of which are in Hebrew and French. Actresses auditioning for the role of Anne are asked to prepare (memorize) a one- to two-minute dramatic monologue. For all others, monologues are optional. All actors auditioning will be asked to read from the script.

The Diary of Anne Frank (directed by John Fionte) will open March 28 and run through May 22 and is sponsored by Life Care Center of Crossville. For audition appointments and more information, contact Mandy Dearman at 484-4324 or via email at mdearman@ccplayhouse.com.

Currently at the Playhouse are The Dixie Swim Club (rated PG, sponsored by Happy Hound Realty) through March 21 and the iconic 50s musical Grease (rated PG, co-sponsored by Mariner’s Pointe Resort and Cumberland Medical Center) through March 9.

Tickets and information are also available for Southern Stars Symphonic Brass. All CCP productions are made possible through sponsor support, with additional support provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
