Good Samaritan Society celebrates Volunteer Week

CROSSVILLE — The Good Samaritan Society, F.F.G. is joining organizations across the country in celebrating National Volunteer Week April 21-27.

Volunteer Week is set aside each year to recognize volunteers for their contributions. The Good Samaritan Society, F.F.G., plans a Worship Service to honor our volunteers.

Last year, volunteers at Good Samaritan Society, F.F.G., shared an estimated 9,423.75 hours of volunteer work from January through November of 2012. Some of the volunteer opportunities include individual services, group services and organizational services.

"Our volunteers are incredibly important in helping us carry out our mission of sharing God’s love as we provide services to our residents and clients,” Evelyn Montandon, interim campus administrator of Good Samaritan Society, F.F.G., says. “We appreciate their dedication, spirit and gift of time.”

National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing an annual celebration of volunteering. Today, the special week is sponsored by the Points of Light Institute.

The Good Samaritan Society, F.F.G., is part of The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, a not-for-profit organization that owns and operates rehabilitation and skilled care centers and senior living communities in 24 states.

The Good Samaritan Society’s mission is to share God’s love in word and deed by providing shelter and supportive services to older persons and others in need, believing that “ In Christ’s Love, Everyone Is Someone.”
