Asbury Univesrity band, chorale to perform at memorial concert Sunday

CROSSVILLE — It is a tradition at the Fairfield Glade Community Church (521 Snead Dr.) to give an annual memorial concert near Veterans Day to honor the church members who have passed during the previous 12 months. This year there are 20 honorees, many of who were members of the Fairfield Glade community and known to area residents. The guest music ensembles who will provide the memorial concert this year are from Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky. The brass band and vocal chorale will both be contributing to the concert which will be at 3 p.m. These ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Ronald Holz (brass band) and Dr. Beatrice Holz (chorale), a husband and wife team who are internationally renowned for their skills and leadership in their fields.

The memorial concert service will be about 75 minutes in length and is comprised of a first half of music (20-25 minutes) that is sacred and solemn, followed by a rose ceremony which honors each deceased member with a short scripture and statement of their personality, and concludes with 20-25 minutes of music that is more upbeat and fitting for the occasion. The concert is open to the general public, and is an impressive and moving opportunity to hear outstanding music by these university student ensembles while honoring recently deceased members of our community.

The following is a list of the Community Church members who will be honored:  John McNulty, Marabele Jones, Roy Woodling, Edna Everson, Beverly Dahlhaus, Hal Barcus, John Coahran, Walt Hill, Bunnie Feldhaus, G. William Harrison, Patsy Key, Norma Ruth Hansen Anderberg, Barbara Bain, A.B. Harper, Rogers Westlake, Mickie (Mildred) Alberter, Betty Woods, Ann Lee, Mary Cary, and Hugh Black.

Separately, the Community Church's 9:50 a.m. worship service on Nov. 11 will be entirely led by the Asbury University music ensemble leadership group with music provided by the brass band and vocal chorale. The public is also welcome to join this worship service which will be greatly enhanced by the presence of these outstanding young Christian individuals.
